By TM Apurva Singh, Area C4 Director, TM Yukta Anand, President Transcend Toastmasters & TM Mahima Bhat, PR Team
The Club Officer Training Program for the brand new District 121 was launched on an innovative new platform – online with Zoom – and spread over three days to accommodate all ten Divisions with District Officials and experts offering training to more than 1000 Club Officers who attended.
Each event began with Registration and Networking online – attendees were asked to introduce themselves to the virtual gathering of Toastmasters from clubs all over the District.
In her address, Program Quality Director (PQD), DTM Vanitha Rangarajan, expressed her thoughts on how to be a mentor – to guide and support a team or club members. Speaking to the virtual gathering, Club Growth Director(CGD), DTM Savitha Salian, also referred to the present challenging times and assured everyone that we would sail through this too.
The first presentation was about the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) and Club Success Plan which was explained using a chart and highlighted the significance of the planning process. Following this, a session on the Club Dashboard and Club Central, on the Toastmasters International website was conducted. The final presentation was on Moments of Truth (MOT) part of the Successful Club series, explaining how and when it had to be conducted at club level, and highlighting the important values of MOT, serving as the voice of club members.
Following this, Club Officers were directed to Breakout rooms where they were trained by different subject experts for their respective roles as Club Executive Committee Members and had discussions with fellow club officers in the District.
YUKTA ANAND, President, Transcend Toastmasters:
You never know what you can do unless you try. Who would have thought that we would need to conduct the Club Officer Training Program online? I was a little skeptical as to how it would take place on an online platform but there was no reason for me to feel this way and I realised this immediately. They conducted it as if it was happening in person. All in all, this entire event, despite being held online, was carried through perfectly. The main purpose was met, we were given the necessary information that was required and gained more knowledge not just about our roles but our newly formed district!
MAHIMA BHAT, IPP, Milagres Toastmasters:
One important aspect that was highlighted was the fact that following the new MOT process, clubs would see direct benefits – it would be a core process and not just a formality. Another interesting activity – the audience was kept occupied with their fingers on their keyboard by responding to questions on Mentimeter.com.
APURVA SINGH, Area C4 Director, VVCE Toastmasters:
Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other and we Toastmasters believe in it truly. In addition to the presentations, the audience was engaged from time to time by the Q&A sessions on Mentimeter.com which also helped the organizers to take feedback from the audience.
