In August 2020, Toastmasters all over the world joined the International Convention online, the first of its kind to take place and the first live experience for many members who would not have been able to attend otherwise. For members world-wide it was an opportunity to participate in decision making with the Board of International Directors at Town Hall, where the Board explained the rationale for their decisions and at the Annual Business Meeting where Proposal A and Proposal B were voted on by club representatives. Proposal A and B are amendments to the Bylaws of Toastmasters International (TMI). Why should that concern you? Because Proposal A will provide more Leadership opportunities for members as the Toastmasters movement grows and spreads into new areas. If approved Proposal A will come into effect from July 2021.

| 1 Since 2017, the Toastmasters world map has been divided into 14 Regions and each region has roughly 15% of all TMI Member Clubs. (above) | Proposal A proposes that the number of Member Clubs in each Region is increased from 15% to 20% thereby reducing the number to 7 Regions. (below) |
| 2 Currently, there are 14 International Directors, one from each Region, who are elected to the Board of Directors at the International Convention. | Proposal A proposes that each of the 7 Regions has 2 International Directors so that the size of the Board remains the same – 14 International Directors. |
| 3 Currently, International Directors serve a two year term, therefore future candidates have to wait for two years for a position to be open for election. | Proposal A proposes that International Directors serve staggered two year terms. Since every Region has two International Directors, every year 7 new International Directors will be elected while the other 7 positions will be open for election the following year. This will provide continuity on the Board and candidates from each Region will have an opportunity to get elected every year. |
